What is Griffith Early Intervention Service?
We are a service for children from birth to school age who have a disability or delay in two or more areas of their development.
We offer FAMILY SUPPORT, EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT, THERAPY SUPPORT, INFORMATION and REFERRAL TO OTHER AGENCIES AND DEPARTMENTS.
We aim to:
• |
Assist families to recognise their child’s level of functioning in order to provide appropriate toys, play activities and experiences, and encourage involvement. |
• |
Facilitate integration into a whole range of children’s services including pre-school, childcare & school. |
• |
Ensure the child and family are referred to appropriate professional services for accurate diagnosis. |
What does GEIS offer the child and their family?
1. |
Support and comprehensive information for the family. |
2. |
An initial Play Based Assessment with qualified educators that guide the family in understanding their child’s development. |
3. |
Help in referral to other community agencies such as therapy and family support. |
| 4. |
An Individual Family Service Plan and Individual Education Program is developed with each family. |
| 5. |
The child and their parent or carer participate in Early Learning Groups and individual sessions on a regular basis. |
| 6. |
Educators provide consultation in preschool/long day care centres or home, as necessary, to implement the program. |
| 7. |
Support and information in the transition of children to settings such as preschool and school. |
How are we funded?
GEIS receives funding grants from the Department of Human Services – Aging, Disability & Homecare and
the NSW Department of Education & Training (Intervention Support Program) in order to operate the service.
We are a community based non-profit organisation managed by a voluntary committee of interested parents and community members. We depend on fundraising to substitute our funds for resources and equipment
